Post-Compulsory Tuition

ACS offer individual subject tuition and academic guidence in most areas of Post-Compulsory education. Whether you are studying A-Levels, beginning your first essay on an Access course, or putting the finishing touches to your third year university dissertation, we can help.

What we think…

The dimensions concerning academic study change considerably in the post-compulsory sector. Without doubt, there is a far greater emphasis on the individual taking responsibilliy for their own learning. Particularly at university, a student must be able to demonstrate appropriate subject knowledge, be firm in their understanding of the the subject and its subsequent application.

Alongside traditional subject tuition, ACS can help you develop your study skills and add to your academic tool kit. Subject knowledge is valuable but perhaps more important is the abillity to relay your knowledge in the required way. Whether this be in the form of a presentation, essay, research project, or final year dissertation, you must be able to put what you know into practice.

In order to do this to an acceptable level, you need to be equiped with the necessary academic tools. A simple comparison would be a builder that has extensive knowledge about building a wall. If he did not have the right tools, he would not be able to demonstrate his expertise. Going a step further, even if he had the tools, he must learn how to use them effectively. The same can be said for students.

If one had subject knowledge but lacked the ability to demonstrate it to others through assessment, it could seriously hinder their academic progression. The development of the students' tool kit for the learning and application is invaluable for students who not only want to 'get through', but who want to achieve a higher final grade that reflects their effort and ability more precisely.
